Mark Joyce was born in Dublin in 1966; on graduation he won the Guinness Peat Aviation Emerging Irish Artists Award. He received an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London in 1993.
He has had Solo Exhibitions in Ireland, UK and the USA and has curated exhibitions at Le Petit Port, Leiden, Netherlands, Sydney Non Objective, Sydney, Australia, The Model, Sligo and The Drawing Project, Dublin. His work is in many Public Collections including the Irish Museum of Modern Art and Arts Council of Ireland. He was artist in residence at the Josef and Annie Albers Foundation in Connecticut, USA and the Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore. His work has been reviewed in Flash Art, Turps Banana, The Denver Post, The Sunday Times and RTE Radio and Television. He is a founding member of The Drawing Project, Dublin and is a lecturer in the Faculty of Film, Art and Creative Technologies, IADT.

Group Exhibitions include Eyes to think, Light and Space, Manila (2014) Into the light, Hugh Lane Dublin City Gallery (2012), Crystalline, Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown, (2012).Making Familiar, Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin (2012), Blots, Smears and Stains, Transition Gallery, London, Come in, SIM, Icelandic Centre for the arts, Reykjavik (2011).
Since 2000 he has been working with ideas of physical light, pulling colours across a surface, creating paths of solid light and a charged space behind. The viewer encounters aspects of a scientific discourse played out physically in the artwork. Marks interest in this area is driven by human curiosity about the anomalies and strangeness of the physical world.
